Review of Arccos Caddie Mobile App for Golfers
I golf with friends from work every week, so this is one of
the apps I use most on my phone. The Arccos Caddie mobile app is designed to
work with Arccos Smart Sensors or Smart Grips. It is an innovative golf shot
tracker that keeps track of every shot, including putts. Arccos provides
analytics and helps the user make strategic decisions in real-time on the
course regarding club recommendations, distance to pin, and distance of each
shot. It is not just a range finder; it also considers wind speed, the slope of
each green, and pin locations for the day, depending on the course.
Usability – As soon as you open the app, you
immediately notice the ease of use. Setting up your clubs and ball information
is straightforward, and once your sensors are synced with your clubs, the app
will notify you to start the calibration process. Again, the app tracks your
shots automatically with almost no manual input. The shot tracking is
beneficial because it allows me to focus more on my rounds than adjusting the
wrong inputs of an app. The "plays like" feature is my favorite part.
I am not close to a scratch golfer, but this feature has helped shave strokes
off my round. This feature accounts for slope, temperature, altitude, humidity,
and wind. Honestly, this app sometimes feels like having your own caddie on the
bag.
Design – Visually, this mobile app is sleek and
intuitive while modern and straightforward. A clean color scheme has minimal
clutter and clear fonts throughout each hole. Another fantastic feature is that
it does not have ads, which makes it easier to digest your own performance on
the course. Being able to track your progress hole by hole is another
highlight. Your shots are tracked as an overlay of a satellite image, which I
prefer so that you can get a bird's eye view of the layout before you play the
hole. This allows you to visualize your shot and improve upon your strategy.
Casual golfers and data enthusiasts alike will enjoy this app's design as it is
easy to navigate.
Functionality – Not only does this app excel in
real-time data during your round, but it also offers post-round analysis,
allowing you to look back on your round and figure out where to take a few
strokes off during the next round by playing a hole a different way. GPS on
your mobile device helps guide your club selection and gives you an exact
distance estimation. Analyzing your round, when complete, allows you to look at
specific and detailed statistics and also has a strokes gained feature. The
user can then compare distances and recorded shots among other players with a
similar skill level. Arccos now provides Apple Watch compatibility, so the user
does not have to carry their phone in their pocket in order for the sensors to
track shots. I personally still prefer a phone over a watch since I do not like
having jewelry on during my rounds.
Recommendations for Improvement
- Offline
mode: I have played on some courses where cell service was not the
best. If you do not download the course ahead of time in these areas,
being able to use the app on the first hole might not work out for you.
- Battery
Usage Optimization: Another benefit of having an offline mode is
better battery optimization. Since this app uses constant GPS to run, it
quickly drains your cell phone battery.
- Enhanced
AI Feedback: While I appreciate everything this app does and how it
has helped me so far, using the data it collects to make personalized
suggestions like working on shots from 100-150 yards to improve your Green
in Regulation.
I have used several different GPS-tracked apps on the
course, including handheld range finders, but overall, the Arccos Mobile app
has been the most powerful and best app I have come across to date. With very
few enhancements needed, this could possibly be the best digital caddie app for
players of all levels.
